Air Commando spotlight: Airman 1st Class Eric Hernandez

• Squadron: 27th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron

• Accomplishments: Hernandez is a dedicated maintainer who adapts easily to new situations. He was recognized for outstanding performance as the best in his First Term Airman Center class, and he won the “Sharp Tac” award for dress and appearance. He is also dedicated to academics, graduating maintenance training with a 99.2 percent grade average and earning the Academic Achievement Award.

Hernandez also performs outstandingly on the job. He detected and serviced a critically low oxygen system, avoiding emergency maintenance and preventing eight hours of aircraft downtime. He was also a key participant in a successful MC-130W Dragon Spear small diameter bomb test mission.

• Base/community involvement: Hernandez is an unmatched volunteer in his squadron. He invested more than 220 hours tutoring students at Barry Elementary this year. He volunteered his off-duty time and his vehicle for six weekends to the Airmen Against Drunk Driving program, driving eight airmen home safely.
